EXAM PROVIDER INFORMATION
The Trafford Grammar School Consortium comprises Altrincham Grammar School for Boys, Altrincham Grammar School for Girls, Sale Grammar School, Stretford Grammar School and Urmston Grammar School. GL Assessment is the test provider for Year 7 entry testing for September 2024 and beyond.
The entrance examination will consist of two tests, each approximately one hour in length, containing questions that assess verbal, non-verbal and mathematics skills. For each element there will be a range of different types of questions.
Questions that test verbal ability skills may include questions relating to word choice, knowledge of words and their meanings and how words relate to each other. Students may also be asked questions that relate to verbal reasoning comprehension skills.
Questions that test non-verbal ability skills may include questions relating to relationships between shapes and sequences of shapes, identification of common features from a set of figures and applying them to a new figure, codes and spatial awareness questions.
Questions that test mathematics skills generally cover content taught in schools up to the start of Year 6. The areas assessed typically include aspects of number, measurement, geometry and statistics. Some questions may involve using current mathematical skills to solve mathematic problems.

Learning Support for the Entrance Exam and Year 6 Transition
If your child requires exam access arrangements for the Entrance Examination please ensure you have read the Admissions Policy and the Entrance Exam Information Booklet for information on how these are requested and considered. When you register your child for the exam will be asked to provide relevant supporting evidence as part of the application process. Please note that it is not possible for staff from the Learning Support Team to discuss an applicant’s access arrangements on an individual basis, prior to applying. All queries should be directed to Admissions by email.
Learning Support offer a comprehensive transition process to all Year 6 students who secure a place at AGSB. Understanding additional learning needs is an important part of this process. If your child is joining AGSB as a Year 7 and has special educational needs, our SENDCo and Head of Year 7 will be in touch, during the final summer half-term, to discuss their support in more detail.
